Tips for Successful Parenting

Spring Break is right around the corner.  Most students have been thinking about any number of options they might have: going home, staying on-campus to make extra money, or heading to the beach or mountains with friends.  This is a great opportunity to talk about his plans, as well as share your expectations about things like, who is financing a trip or what he might do if he come home.  There is a shift happening in accountability and responsibility that often “shows up” in these conversations.

The first Spring Break of college may often include a trip with new friends. Initiate an open conversation about what plans might include. It is helpful to speak about being cautious and aware be curious without being accusatory.  Stories are plentiful of crazy Spring Break experiences, but not all college trips are like this. Many students take advantage of academic or outreach experiences.
